Program Description
The Master of Education degree in Library Media with Instructional Technology Certification requires 48 semester hours of course work. Courses must be included in these categories: professional education and courses in the certification areas. A special education course is required by the Georgia PSC but can be removed if this has already been met. This degree program must be completed within six years of the date of the initial coursework listed on the Program of Graduate Study.
T4 certification in a teaching field is not required for admission to the program but applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree. This degree is a cohort model, meaning students may begin at any time—fall, spring, or summer.
Admission Requirements
- University Admissions Form
- Two professional recommendations
- Official copies of all transcripts
- Minimal GPA of 2.75
- Resume
- Passing scores on the GACE Basic Skills. Applicants must pass or exempt the GACE Basic Assessment to be admitted to this program.
Certification
When all course and examination requirements of this program have been met, an S-5 certificate in Media Specialist may be issued by the Professional Standards Commission of Georgia. Instructional Technology certification will also be issued once the candidate holds the media specialist certification or some other education-related certification through the PSC. Georgia College & State University recommendation is required.
Out-of-State Applicants
If applicants hold a Professional certificate in another state, the Program Admission Assessment may not be required. But they should be encouraged to also apply for initial certification in Georgia based on the reciprocity agreement with their state. In other words, educators should create MyPSC accounts to confirm their Georgia programs and should apply for Georgia certification by reciprocity. Their programs can then confirmed when completed so their out-of-state Program Verification forms can be issued.
